Several days later the man was back on the street displaying his booking tag. He had lost some things out of his backpack including a rather nice camera. He assumed that the police had taken it. I doubt that they took it, but even if they didn't, I'm sure they didn't care much about his possessions.          The police created a big tempest over someone who was not dangerous to himself or anybody else. Was there an alternative? I think it would be better to either leave drunks alone or to treat them in some other way than throwing them in jail.
